New faces, new energy
School year is off to a great start

– by Joyce G, junior, and Dianna M, sophomore –

This school year began with a record number of 411 students enrolled—the highest number in the school’s history. From the preschool wing to the senior hallway, students and teachers are feeling the effects of this exciting growth.

The increased enrollment was obvious on the very first day. Walking through the halls, students noticed a busier pace and a little more traffic to get between classes. The administration has staggered which bells ring for which students, with high school often changing classes on the first bell, junior high on the second bell, and 6th grade on the third. Some periods, the times are switched. For many students it’s a challenge, but for others it adds to the fun.

“Personally, I think that the new students made school much more fun and entertaining,” said junior Daniel L. “Being able to meet new people is a nice experience that I personally enjoy.”

The academy is also officially celebrating 50 years this year; and with 20 graduating students, the senior class is the largest in recent memory.

Mrs. Perdue is teaching the extra 5th grade class, joining Miss Lawlor in shaping the upper elementary years.
